Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Programs

Welcome to the Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Programs at Arlington Heights Nursery School! The Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Programs at Arlington Heights Nursery School serve children ages two years nine months to six years. We believe that children are naturally driven to construct their learning and knowledge and thrive in environments that can bend and support this drive. Our curriculum is emergent, play-based, and inspired by Reggio Emilia. Teachers provide opportunities and materials for children to explore in a hands-on, interactive learning environment.

The Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Programs consist of eight classrooms that are located on the second floor. All of the classrooms are bright, airy, and furnished so that children have access to a wide variety of materials. The physical environment is designed to optimize concrete learning through play and to enable children to explore a multitude of hands-on activities. Classrooms are set up with games, sensory tables, blocks, dress up areas, easels, and cozy quiet areas. Teachers provide opportunities for children to explore open-ended activities and materials that support their social-emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. These materials invite investigation, observation, manipulation, and imagination.

Teachers plan the curriculum in each classroom weekly in the areas of creative projects, sensory and discovery, gross and fine motor, literacy and language, Free Play, and Small Group. Curriculum routinely includes activities, projects, books, and songs that encourage children’s expression in the social-emotional domain and provide opportunities for children to reason, problem solve, analyze, and practice self-help skills. Our skilled teachers observe and interact closely with children to integrate and extend their interests into key activities to nurture and challenge their individual growth.
